April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons, sparking her interest in music writing. At the age of seven, April began taking piano and guitar lessons. It sparked her interest in songwriting. At the age of 14, April devoted much of her day writing and practicing songs. Soon after she began taking trips to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. April began to include other relevant topics into the song, which she called the Take my Hand song for some friends, such as peer-pressure issues and suicide among teens. Lockhart also has an ever-growing fan base as a lifestyle blogger as well as a spokesperson for the popular Clean Beauty company Ilia. She was not born with a left hand, and that is why she's who she is. But that's far from all the facts. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't shy away from her being disabled, but neither does it concentrate on the fact that she is disabled. What is the message? The message? That we have many different aspects, that our physical and identity self aren't as they appear. Lockhart has stated on video that she doesn't wish to be defined by her handicap. She doesn't wish to become an advocate for disabled people who only speaks about it. There are a lot of aspects of Lockhart. However, it doesn't affect my day-to-day routine. I still do all my normal activities and have adjusted to my disability. This is a major element of my life and it's imperative to discuss it. Lockhart is a great example of how to stay striving to be self-accepting. She still admits having gone through a series of phases in her body, and felt insecure at times to wear clothing that displayed the arms of her. Today, she wears what she's comfortable in and post pictures of herself in these outfits on social networks with a sense of pride. For her, self-love is an extended process. It's a long journey. I don't think you ever reach your destination. I think that having people with you who know you and see your heart is really important since they'll be those that remind you of what are you concerned about?
